The owner. The crazy ideas man. And (occasionally) our Chief Distraction Officer. One of Ron’s “crazy ideas” was to build a company that treated staff like family; a company that had a reputation for honesty; a company that was known for providing high quality products and services. And so, in 1984, one year after his brother the late Norman Gottlieb founded Ricky Richards, Ron teamed up with Norman to begin building the Ricky Richards brand and legacy. More than 30 years later, Ron is still inspiring Ricky’s staff to “do the right thing” and make a difference in all our dealings with customers and suppliers.
How long have you been with Ricky Richards?
In words that potential customers, who know nothing about this business will understand, what is your role?
Still trying to figure that one out although I do kind of like Chief Distraction Officer
What are your professional strengths in this role?
The fact that I don’t like constraints and the so called ‘normal’ way of doing things!
Thinking back, what was one job that you did really well that you know made a big difference to the results achieved for the customer or your team?
Not so much a job, more of a mindset. Tell the truth, don’t take shortcuts and continually offer high quality excellent value products and service. Since the very beginning all customers were treated with an equal amount of respect. Whether we sell 5 metres or 5,000 metres to someone, they will be afforded the same care and service level
If there was one thing that you wished people could understand about the way you fulfil your role, what would it be?
That you can actually have fun at work with lots of laughter intermingled with the important job of satisfying both customers and suppliers
What do you hope to achieve in your role at Ricky Richards?
To continually inspire those who work at Ricky Richards with the philosophy that has served us well for the last few decades. Having said that as I get older I probably have to stay out of the way a little more too!
