There are few figures who have shaped the commercial and cultural fabric of Australia’s specialised textiles sector quite like our very own Ron Gottlieb.
We are incredibly thrilled to share that at the recent industry gathering, Ron was officially awarded Life Membership by the Specialised Textiles Association (STA). Becoming only the 32nd person in the association’s long history to receive this prestigious honour, the recognition celebrates more than four decades of business leadership, unwavering advocacy, and mentorship.
Four Decades of Industry Leadership
Ron joined Ricky Richards in 1984, working alongside his brother and founder, Norman Gottlieb, to build the company from its early roots into an industry powerhouse. Over the last 42 years, Ron’s vision has fundamentally changed how the Australian market operates. He pioneered the introduction of advanced international textile technologies, established decades-long relationships with global supply partners, and ensured that local manufacturers and fabricators always had access to the world’s best materials.
Under Ron’s guidance, Ricky Richards joined the STA in 1985. What followed was nearly 40 years of continuous, passionate engagement with the association through active collaboration, financial sponsorship, and moral support.

While Ron’s commercial achievements are monumental, the true highlight of the evening came from the heartfelt words shared by his industry peers, colleagues, and friends. Those who have worked alongside him for decades lined up to describe what Ron means to the textile community:

Beyond business, Ron has always been a fierce advocate for the future of our trade. He has continuously poured his time and energy into supporting apprentice awards and training programs, helping pave the way for the next generation of fabricators and trimmers.
